Sleeping upright in a recliner will prevent the natural congestion we all get when lying down, and may prevent the early head congestion with a cold from becoming a full blown infection. A good night’s rest will recharge your body, giving it the energy to resist the progression of an illness.
Caffeine, decongestants, alcohol, excessive stress and poor diet can also hinder good sleep and lower our resistance to disease. The take home message: take charge and get a good night’s sleep. Avoiding alcohol will help keep your nasal passages open, especially during sleep.
Of course, if you cannot get over the cold, go see your doctor!
